What is an ADHD Coach?

An ADHD coach is a life coach who works with people who have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Coaching is a partnership in which the coach and client work together to create a client-directed plan to evoke a client-desired change. Among the many focuses of ADHD coaching is providing a safe and non-judgmental environment (physical and emotional) where the client can become more self-aware. The coach collaborates with the client to gain knowledge about ADHD and normalize the client’s symptoms and experiences within the scope of ADHD behaviors. As a team, the coach and clients create plans, strategies, and skills to help the client fulfill his/her goals. Among the skills the coach/client team work on, are organization, time management, planning, employment and social competencies. The touchstone of ADHD coaching and of all life coaching is it is a collaborative partnership, driven by the client. The client is accepted by the coach as being capable to enter a relationship that is collaborative, non-judgmental and positive and able to create solutions for his/her own problems and concerns. The client is seen as having the potential to change his/her life.
